Spring Courses: What is New Art Studies?
During the last 30-40 years, several methodologies have appeared in Western art studies, through which the discipline has been profoundly revised and modified. This course will help participants become familiar with the methods, issues, and goals of contemporary western art studies, which will be discussed through texts by a variety of authors.
The topics of the lectures are:
1. Introduction: the concept of New Art Studies
2. Revealing the "sores" of society: social art studies and feminism
3. System or endless commentary? Semiotics and deconstruction
4. Disintegration of the borders of science: gaze theory and visual culture
5. The new challenges of art studies in the 1990s and 2000s. postcolonial theory and art studies in the age of globalization
6. The study of contemporary art
